Day 3- Fez

Today, step back into the Middle Ages with a visit to one of the world's most imperial, timeless, and preserved cities - Fez El Bali (Old Fez), the cultural heart of Morocco. Wander through some of the 9,000 narrow lanes, alleys, and souks (open-air markets) that form the labyrinth of the city's ancient quarter, established in the 8th century AD. The Imperial capital, once a hub of medieval learning, still houses the Karaouine, one of the oldest operational universities in the world. Adjacent stands the Attarine Medersa (Koranic college), a masterpiece of Hispano-Moorish architecture from the 14th century. Sightseeing continues at Nejjarine Square, featuring a stunning fountain adorned with intricate tile-work mosaics. The nearby Fondouq (Caravanserai) now serves as a museum showcasing woodworking artifacts. Visit also includes the Bouanania Medersa, which served as both an educational institution and a congregational mosque.

The tour also encompasses Fez El Jedid (New Fez), erected by the Merinides Dynasty in the 13th century. Discover the Royal Palace, mosques, madrasas (Koranic schools), souks, and the city wall. Notably, Fez El Jedid houses the Mellah (Jewish quarter), offering a glimpse into Jewish architectural heritage. The old mansions' wrought iron decorated windows and exquisite carved wood balconies are particularly remarkable. The medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, adds to the day's experience. Conclude the day with a return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
